This weekend I needed a few days of rest in any order, without stress or hurry, so we left Saturday morning for the Bay of Mazarrón.

He was really looking forward to see this, very close to Mazarron, but I really take a big disappointment.

I had seen in several places of photographs of the area and I had drawn attention to the point of becoming a preferred destination for a weekend, but once there everything changed. Maybe I had too many illusions and had idealized the place, but the fact is that was so disappointing that when we come to the exact place it was assumed that what could not be so impressive that we had seen in photos. But it was.

The truth is that once you're there and you start to hide among the rock shapes reconfigure the initial idea. It is a small piece, but the figures are very impressive and strange.

It makes me laugh to think that in itself explanatory poster read: "Bolnuevo Enchanted City." I understand that everybody wants to use the natural resources they have, but ...

In short, unless something is something and nothing. I do not think it worth a visit on purpose to see them but if you're in the area may come to like.

Also known as Bolnuevo Enchanted City, consists of sandy or loam sleeves, yellow sandstone and to a lesser extent, microconglomerates lentejón fine. The sandstone ridges have bluish-gray carbonate and different macrofauna of molluscs and crustaceans. The Gredos, according to studies, have provided abundant microfossils dating from Zancliense (Pliocene, some 4millones years). These rocks have different degrees of cohesion, have undergone a process of differential erosion, where water and wind (the latter is responsible for alveolar erosion "honeycomb" observed in some strata of sandstone) have been instrumental in this process. This has given rise to fungal forms whimsical beauty.

Lunch at La Manga del Mar Menor

After the great disappointment of the Gredos was approaching lunchtime, so we decided to get closer to La Manga del Mar Menor, a restaurant called The School of Pieter (Construction Veneziola, Tel 968 43 70 59). The best, without doubt, the restaurant and its location on the beach in the Mar Menor, facing the sun. To give you an idea on a table next to us had some boys who had arrived by sea in a watercraft. This brings us to the interesting part. We trimarino (prawns, whitebait and clams) and chopitos first and second rice with seafood. The food generally good, period, is not the best but okay. Rice in point, on chicken . The trimarino proved to be the best, the mix was very good. The chopitos, overcooked, they were too hard and a little bland for my taste.

After eating and your stomach is full to bursting we come to Cabo de Palos for a stroll and a drink. Impressive in this time of year.

Eat in Murcia

On Sunday, before returning to Valencia, we went to one of our favorite restaurants of Murcia, the channel, doublet (Camino Viejo Gilandario, 9, Aljucer, Tel: 968 251 405), located in a privileged setting in the middle of Murcia.

We take clams and seafood house salad followed by beef at the stone, the house specialty. All good but the beef, excellent.

For dessert, tiramisu and cheesecake. They were good, but the really striking were the prices of the desserts, 2.75 euros, nowadays, is very cheap.

I've been several times and I still fascinates Cabo de Palos. The lighthouse area seems very quiet and relaxing while the town still remains almost intact its origin sailor. This is not to say that tourism has not made an appearance, but is very mild compared to the rest of the coast and even more so considering that it is next to La Manga del Mar Menor. Although I liked this time of year, I can not deny that I loved in the middle of January, almost alone with the sea and more unruly.

The seabed in the vicinity of Cabo de Palos is one of the most important reserves in the Mediterranean and has earned the rank of Integral Marine Reserve. Her beauty makes the area in one of the favorite spots for divers, in fact it is always easy to see several groups of them in the water.

A short distance from the sea out and you can see several small islands, Islas Hormigas, environment in which there are several wrecks, including the SS Handel (31/05/1899), the Sirius (08/04/1906) or North America (1883), major attraction for divers as well. Murcia coast is rich in subsidence due to the mountainous terrain of your screen plus it is almost obligatory passage between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. If that was not short this combination to promote the wrecks, the Germans took advantage of this strategic point in World War I torpedo freighters attempting to bypass the blockade to which the area underwent ally.

We arrived when the sun began to hide behind the horizon and we were a long time around the lighthouse watching the waves breaking against the rocks. It was quite windy but it was luxury.

After a tour of the port we went to dinner. We had recommended a site, so we did not think so, restaurant La Tana , on the same port of Cabo de Palos.

It cost us to choose between rice with lobster and the pot, but decided it would be better to try the local specialty. As shown in the pictures below, the pot is served with fish but in separate tray and mix in the dish. Rice was simply exquisite, intense and pleasant taste with almost perfect consistency. We left happy and this time it was finished all the food. Too bad you had to drive because a good glass of wine would have been the ideal companion.

We just rice but there was no room for dessert despite having a very good paint the home, so we went straight to the coffee.

The Asian is what the chocolate Murcia to Valencia. Although originally made in the area of Cartagena, and today is the traditional coffee throughout the region. Coffee, condensed milk, lemon, cinnamon, brandy, Licor 43 creates an interesting mix of flavors.

Dusk in Cabo de Gata

After spending a quiet day and resting lying on a couch and moving around just to take a beer and some snacks, I went to Cabo de Gata when the evening turns into dusk. I can not understand that there are no more people at that time sightseeing. The access road to the lighthouse comes a time that makes you put a tie since that barely fits your car and is two-way ... We know that there is a Galician on the moon, so we had to find a few at this point so far from the terrine.

Continue our way to San Jose , nightfall, walking the archetypal P Natural Cabo de Gata - Nijar . One of the most important tourist centers of Almeria. Formed around a small fishing village, has grown over the bay and the beach thanks to tourism, yes, protected against the construction of tall buildings.

We take for dinner at La Taberna del Puerto in the very marina. This time we opted for a puntillitas, bloc de foie duck with raspberry jam and milk with salt served with three sauces, without wine, he had to drive. Fish, as seen, brilliantly served by the waitress.

Back to Valencia decided to visit some of the Murcia coast. The part of Cartagena and La Manga and know, so we toured the area further south, from Aguilas Mazarron.

Almost as soon as it went straight to dinner it was time. On the recommendation of an acquaintance went to La Casa del Mar, next to the marina. We red prawns, salad and rice a banda. Nothing fancy, really. To my companion to give fairly equal seafood (is that if you have not run across the field ...) and I, as a good Galician, I find excasivamente faces red shrimp for what they are, for that price I prefer a good king crab the estuary . The best, of course, dessert, coconut cake, homemade and delicious.

After lunch, get off the food is not that we accumulate in the rolls, so a walk along the bay. Eagles was founded in 1785 as output port Lorca horticultural products. Nestled in the hills overlooking the city is the castle of San Juan de las Aguilas , the XVI century. The hill separates the east and west bays. At the end of the east bay is the viewpoint of Pico de L'Aguilica which overlooks the bay and completely castle.

Cabo Cope

Following the winding road leading from Aguilas Mazarron along the coast and after passing Calabardina we Cabo Cope and the bay.

Right there we find the Torre de Cope, watchtower and defense destroyed and rebuilt many times throughout history. It was built in the XVIth century to protect the coast of Barbary continued attacks.

Puerto de Mazarron

Continuing the road between mountains we Calnegre, where we recommend some beaches, but a matter of time we could not stop and continue down the same road to Puerto de Mazarrón.

Not much to say, typical tourist town driven by the expansion has grown uncontrollably. The situation repeats itself, few people and without strain. I did not like anything the beach, rocky and sandy dark, very uncomfortable to swim and enjoy.
